Breakfast at Tiffany's
My friend's husband asked me to throw a surprise party for his wife's
40th birthday and gave me the theme "Breakfast at Tiffany's," because
it's her favorite movie. I've organized a lot of parties over the years,
but never been asked by someone else, so I was quite flattered he
wanted me to host her party. The plan was to prepare the house while she
was out shopping with her husband. There was a group of darling ladies
ready to surprise her when she arrived at the house with a ladies night
to remember, full of games and fun!
Breakfast At Tiffany's Themed Party: 40th Birthday Suprise
The color scheme was black, white, and turquoise. I made an invitation with Punchbowl (I use that site for all my parties I host because it is free and it beats using up all your ink in your printer) I based my invitation off of the one found here http://www.etsy.com/listing/109210081/breakfast-at-tiffanys-invitation
As the darling guests arrived, I had them choose a necklace and ring pop from a fancy silver platter.
The jewelry was placed in the entry way by the movie poster Breakfast at Tiffany's. We wore the ring pops and necklaces to greet the birthday girl. As the host, I presented her with a tiara, wine glass full of blue punch, and a black dress I found in her closet. We surprised her as she entered the house by singing Happy Birthday. (You should have seen her face - she almost peed her pants).
Don't the ring pops bring you back to the good ole days? I just loved the extra pizzazz it added to the rest of the atmosphere!
Here are the group of ladies that were able to show up before the Birthday Girl arrived. There were a few that arrived later after the birthday girl, however, I made it quite clear in the invitation - to be on time, would simply be divine! Also to wear black, and the fancier the wardrobe, the better!
Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired punch (everyone loved how perfectly it matched the color scheme) found here: http://tonispilsbury.com/tiffany-inspired-party-punch/
Breakfast
at Tiffany's inspired cupcakes. Three toppers were actually erasers
with toothpicks inserted in them, found at the dollar store.
Turquoise
and white polka dotted table cloth, sheer black runner, white candles
placed in the middle, and tool white ribbon tied in bows around the
chairs.
Martha Stewart inspired Pom-poms found here: http://www.marthastewart.com/265163/pom-poms-and-luminarias-how-to
Themed colored crate paper, pearls, and pom-poms on each beam.
Popcorn, M&M's, cupcakes, and banana split bar were all chosen by her husband, which happen to be her favorite treats.
Here's
the birthday girl's surprised reaction. Isn't that so fun? She really
had no idea!! You will notice a card placed on my back. As we were
waiting for the birthday girl we played an ice breaker game. As the host getting ready to welcome the birthday girl with her tiara. I was also dressed up to resemble Holly Gollightly. Notice the pom-poms hanging in the archway as she entered.
Breakfast at Tiffany's themed ice breaker game
- Note cards - enough for each player
- sharpie/marker
- tape
- enough associated words to the movie (perfume, Tiffany's Inc., cat mask, Holly Golightly, pastry, etc)
Tape
a card on back of each guest. They must not see what you gave them.
Tell the guests that they are to go around to all other guests asking
"yes" or "no" questions of what there cards may be. A simple place to
start is to ask if it is a person, place, or thing? They were only
allowed to ask three questions per person. The first one to guess their
card won a prize.
Her husband
actually gave her that necklace from Tiffany's and Co. with all of us
there watching as an added surprise. It just melted our hearts. It was
sooo sweet. She was just so happy. She claimed that this was the best
party EVER.
Breakfast at Tiffany's Photo Shoot: Audrey Hepburn style
Look at all these fun props I had lying around the house
(yes I am an antique collector so that was an added bonus).
Birthday Girl
always wanted a photo of herself on her actual birthday. What fun to
make that dream come true, Audrey Hepburn style.
Audrey Hepburn dress game:
- 2 black crate paper
- 2 white crate paper
- 2 darling models
Birthday girl with the two exquisite models.
Margarita glass relay game:
- 4 bowls the same size (clear is best)
- water in two of the bowls
- 2 margarita glasses
- 2 eye masks.
We divided up into two teams and took turns filling up the glasses blindfolded. A player on each team helped guide the blind folded person to the other end of the room, where they had to empty their glass into the bowl. This was repeated until one of the team's bowls was filled up. It made a small mess to clean up, so I would recommend doing this on a surface that could easily be wiped down afterwards.
Winner's prizes (Audrey Hepburn approval):
- Nail polishes (this was a hit)
- Nail kit
- Silver make up clutch
- Notebook and pad
- Eyeshadow
- Lipgloss
- Tic-tacs
- Compact mirror
Each of these prizes were $1 or under but I made them look classy by fancying them up with ribbon and pearls. It made it extra elegant by putting them on a silver platter shown below. The darlings then chose the prize their heart desired.
Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies as well! I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn and her style is totally in my element. I had a blast putting it all together. Thanks for the opportunity to host such a fabulous party!
